Diesel Fuel Vs Unleaded Gas
How Do I Choose?
During the anti-diesel crusade several years ago, diesel fuel was considered "dirtier" than unleaded gas. Diesel engines were creating more emissions because they weren't efficient. This lead to diesel fuel becoming obsolete. In response through regulation, steps were taken to improve the efficiency of diesel fuel by 20% to 40%. This improved efficiency lead to improved cleanliness.
Although diesel fuel greenhouse emissions are still about 15% higher than unleaded gas, it is more dense which allows it to burn more efficiently than unleaded gas. As a result, the increase in diesel fuel efficiency offsets the greenhouse emissions because a diesel vehicle will burn about 30% less fuel to travel the same distance.
In years past, it was more economical to own a diesel RV because diesel fuel was less expensive and diesel RVs were more efficient. In today's world, the rising cost of diesel fuel is closing the gap in RV fuel expenses. It is really a matter of personal preference when considering which type of Motorized RV to buy.
